7 Public Installations in Barcelona to Celebrate 300 Years of Catalan Spirit

1 Since we just came back from Barcelona, we thought we should share some of the artsy things we enjoyed on our trip. Every year, the Catalan people commemorate the events of September 11th 1714, a key date in the War of the Spanish Succession that has come to symbolize what Voltaire called “the Barcelonans’ extreme love of freedom.” With this year marking the 300th anniversary of these events, Barcelona Cultura enlisted the Fundació Enric Miralles to curate 7 public installations around the city as part of its Tricentenari BCN program. Each of them has its meaning. 2 Democracy by Yael Reisner + Peter Cook, Plaça de la Mercè   34 Diversity by Studio Odile Decq, with the collaboration of Recetas Colectivas, Plaça dels Àngels   56 Europe by ETH Zürich + Urban-Think Tank, Plaça del Mar   78 Citadel by Benedetta Tagliabue + Àlex Ollé, Passeig dels Til·lers   910 Freedom by Anupama Kundoo, Plaça de Salvador Seguí   111213 Identity by URBANUS, Plaça Nova   1415 Memory by Grafton Architects, Arc de Triomf   Source: http://www.archdaily.com/521978/barcelona-commemorates-300-years-of-catalan-spirit-with-7-public-installations/
