Theme of the day: lattice architecture

There has been a lot of talk about the Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto in the past few months. No wonder, being invited to create a new structure for London’s Serpentine Gallery is something people have the habit to fuss about. Not that Mr. Fujimoto needed any more of that. His architectural work has been an inspiration for quite a while now, and it seems to us that what people appreciate more about it is the absence (or the indistinctness) of boundaries between different type of spaces.

His latest design for the art venue perpetuates the inside/outside loose boundary idea, by offering shelter and open-space in the same time. It’s a forest of lattice structure that appears to float above the ground, forming terraces that invite people to interact with the surroundings and the structure itself. The pavilion offers that ambiguous, transparent, melting into green image Fujimoto tends to use in so many of his projects. Really nice work.

The disappearing architecture object is a theme other architects chose to exploit, too. We have met this kind of architectural approach (which, Sou Fujimoto says, resembles to living among the clouds) in several projects we want to share with you guys.
